De la Fuente extends Spain contract to 2032

Spain head coach Luis de la Fuente has agreed a contract extension that will keep him in charge until 2032, according to BBC Sport Football. His previous deal was set to run out in 2028. The move lengthens his tenure with the national team well beyond the next major international cycle and puts him in position to lead Spain into the 2030 men’s World Cup, which the country will co-host with Portugal and Morocco.

De la Fuente, 65, took over from Luis Enrique in December 2022 after Spain were eliminated in the last 16 at that year’s World Cup. Since then, Spain have produced a strong competitive record, losing only twice in 41 matches and winning several honours, including the 2022-23 UEFA Nations League, the 2024 European Championship and the World Cup this summer. BBC Sport said the extension follows those results and reflects the national federation’s confidence in his record.

RFEF president Rafael Louzan said at the World Football Summit in Madrid that De la Fuente’s results and popularity were key factors behind the new deal. The federation also noted that the coach has spent many years in Spain’s setup, including youth-team roles before moving into the senior job. Spain’s next match is scheduled against England at Wembley on 26 September in the opening round of their 2026-27 Nations League campaign.
