Darkest Dungeon is getting its first dollop of DLC in several years, as the gloomy old RPG celebrates its 10th birthday - Eurogamer.net

Eurogamer.net reports that Red Hook Studios has announced Darkest Dungeon: The Fire’s Edge, a new DLC pack for the original Darkest Dungeon, marking the first game’s 10th anniversary period with fresh content several years after its earlier expansions. The add-on is scheduled to launch on 18 August, according to the report.

The DLC brings two playable heroes from Darkest Dungeon 2 into the first game: the Duelist and the Runaway. Eurogamer describes the Duelist as a technical damage-focused character who shifts through party positions and changes between offensive and defensive stances. The Runaway is presented as a more position-flexible attacker built around burn damage.

That burn system is also one of the wider gameplay additions in The Fire’s Edge. The pack will introduce the burn combat mechanic to the original Darkest Dungeon, revise trinkets with new mechanics, and add three Hamlet districts: Academie Duello, Craftworks and Archaeological Base Camp.

The announcement is notable because Darkest Dungeon 2 received generally positive reviews but, as Eurogamer notes, has not been embraced by all players in the same way as the first game. Updating the original title may appeal to long-time fans who prefer its structure and tone. Eurogamer also notes that Red Hook has already teased another Darkest Dungeon 2 DLC for early 2027, suggesting the studio is continuing to support both entries in the series.
