Former Northern Ireland midfielder Stuart Dallas has praised Shea Charles’ £30m move from Southampton to Fulham, saying the 22-year-old has the quality to cope with the Premier League step-up. BBC Sport NI reported that Charles has become Northern Ireland’s most expensive player after the transfer, which follows spells at Manchester City, Southampton and a loan at Sheffield Wednesday. Dallas said Charles’ experience, intelligence and performances for club and country suggest he is ready for the top level, while noting he still has room to improve.

Charles has won 35 caps for Northern Ireland and has become a central figure for Michael O’Neill’s side. Dallas also backed Ethan Galbraith after his summer switch from Swansea City to Stoke City for an undisclosed fee. Galbraith, 25, was used mainly at right-back for Swansea despite being more naturally suited to midfield or wide roles. Dallas said the former Leyton Orient player has the ability to create chances and adapt in several positions, but stressed that regular football in a role closer to his strengths will be important at Stoke.
