What the report says

Rolling Stone reported that prosecutors in Los Angeles presented phone records Friday alleging that singer D4vd, whose legal name is David Anthony Burke, exchanged messages with Celeste Rivas Hernandez about a pregnancy and abortion when she was 13 and he was an adult. The testimony came during a hearing on whether Burke should stand trial in Rivas’ killing.

According to Rolling Stone, LAPD Detective Corey Farell testified that messages recovered from a phone found at Burke’s Los Angeles home showed Rivas repeatedly worried she was pregnant between late 2023 and 2025. Farell said the records indicated she had an abortion in early January 2024, after messages in which the two discussed the pregnancy, paternity and the appointment. Prosecutors allege Burke began a sexual relationship with Rivas around late 2023; the detective said their communications dated to 2022, when she would have been 11.

The outlet reported that investigators also described finding a large collection of child sexual abuse material involving Rivas on the phone, including images prosecutors said were too graphic to show in court. Rivas’ mother left the courtroom in tears during part of the testimony, Rolling Stone reported.

Burke is accused of killing Rivas on April 23, 2025, after prosecutors say she threatened to reveal alleged abuse, and of later dismembering her body. He has denied the allegations. Rolling Stone said Farell was the prosecution’s final witness at this stage, making the text evidence central to the state’s effort to move the case toward trial.
