Cymru Premier games to be shown live by BBC Wales

BBC Cymru Wales has struck a new three-year agreement with the Football Association of Wales to show selected Novira Cymru Premier matches, adding at least 20 live games each season through BBC iPlayer until 2029. BBC Sport Online will also provide regular coverage updates. The first scheduled iPlayer broadcast is Barry Town United against Cardiff Met on 15 August, followed by Ammanford versus Connah’s Quay Nomads on 22 August.

The deal gives the Welsh top flight broader free-to-air exposure at a time when the league is entering a revamped season. The Cymru Premier has expanded from 12 to 16 clubs, and matches are now being played mainly on Friday evenings. BBC Wales said the agreement strengthens its commitment to Welsh football and follows its recent plan to screen all Wales men’s international matches up to Euro 2028.

FAW domestic leagues head Jack Sharp said the partnership should help grow the profile of the league and reach more supporters across Wales and the wider UK. He also said the BBC return would sit alongside the league’s existing Cymru Football TV service, giving fans both subscription and free-to-air options. The broader context is that increased television coverage can raise visibility for domestic football and help clubs connect with larger audiences.
