Eurogamer reports that CD Projekt Red may have had a smaller Cyberpunk project in development alongside its larger franchise plans: an unannounced game based on the anime spin-off Cyberpunk: Edgerunners. Citing MP1st, Eurogamer says CD Projekt and WayForward, the studio known for Shantae, River City Girls and Double Dragon Neon, were at one stage collaborating on a project described as a side game tied to Cyberpunk 2077’s animated offshoot.

According to the report, the project was codenamed Gemini and surfaced through the portfolio of a former WayForward developer, whose name MP1st did not publish. The game was reportedly in very early research-and-development work and was envisioned as a “2.5D brawler” using rollback-based systems, language that suggests an emphasis on responsive online play. Eurogamer notes that this concept would have aligned with WayForward’s history in retro-styled beat ’em ups and platformers.

The project’s future is unclear. MP1st reportedly could not verify whether Gemini remains active, and Eurogamer says separate findings pointed to a WayForward Unreal Engine 5 project that ran into funding delays, paused after a vertical slice, and was followed by layoffs at the studio. The report places Gemini’s development window between 2025 and 2026, but does not establish whether it was the same project affected by those cuts.

The possible Edgerunners brawler matters because Cyberpunk remains an active entertainment franchise for CD Projekt Red beyond Cyberpunk 2077 itself. Eurogamer notes that a second season of Edgerunners and a Cyberpunk trading card game are also in the pipeline, while CD Projekt continues work on a future Cyberpunk sequel and major Witcher projects.
