Crested Cranes Crash Out of Olympic Qualifiers After Zambia Defeat

What the report says
Uganda’s Crested Cranes have been knocked out of the African qualifiers for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympic Games after losing 4–1 away to Zambia in the second leg of their second-round tie. The match, played at Levy Mwanawasa Stadium in Ndola, completed a 5–3 aggregate win for Zambia after Uganda had taken a 2–1 lead from the first leg in Kampala.
According to Nile Post, Zambia started strongly through Natasha Nanyangwe in the ninth minute, before Sylvia Kabene briefly levelled for Uganda six minutes later. Eneless Phiri restored Zambia’s lead in the 22nd minute, and captain Barbra Banda added two second-half goals to settle the contest. Uganda struggled to match Zambia’s attacking pace after the break and could not recover the tie.
The result ends Uganda’s run in a qualification pathway that will eventually decide the two African teams heading to the women’s football tournament at the Los Angeles Olympics. As a general matter, Olympic qualifying in Africa is organized through successive knockout rounds over two legs, making away results and aggregate margins crucial.
Zambia now moves on to face Ghana in the next round after the Black Queens’ dominant win over Mauritius. For Uganda, the defeat closes a campaign that had briefly raised hopes after the first-leg home victory, but ultimately fell short against a stronger Zambia side on the day.
