Video Games Chronicle reports that Sega has set a closed network test for Crazy Taxi: World Tour, with sessions scheduled for September 11-13 on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S and PC. Applications are open through the game’s official website until the end of August, though Sega says participation will be limited to a small group of selected players.

According to VGC, the test is intended to check the stability of the game’s online multiplayer features before launch. It will include two multiplayer modes: Pickup Race, in which as many as six players try to deliver passengers and earn money within a time limit, and Cops ‘n’ Cabbies, a team-based mode. The test build will offer two maps, six vehicles, four playable characters and car tuning options, but it will not include single-player content. Progress from the test will not transfer to the final release.

Sega also released a new trailer highlighting the game’s West Coast map, VGC said. The network test is a notable step for the revival of Crazy Taxi, a long-running Sega arcade driving series known for fast passenger pickups, exaggerated city driving and score-chasing gameplay.

VGC also cited comments from series producer Kanji Kanno at a recent preview event, where he described the return of Crazy Taxi as part of Sega’s broader effort to bring back legacy franchises. Kanno said he sees the series as a way to give players upbeat, low-pressure entertainment at a time when world events can feel discouraging.
