Citing local radio station KLOG, the outlet said the college announced Shah died peacefully at home on Tuesday morning, July 21. A memorial service is scheduled for Monday, August 10, from 1 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. at the college’s Rose Center for the Arts.

Shah appeared on “Jeopardy!” during Season 37 in 2021. According to TVInsider, using figures from J! Archive, she won $118,558 over a seven-game run and received $2,000 after finishing second in her eighth game. She later returned for the 2022 Tournament of Champions, where she reached the quarterfinals and earned $5,000.

The report noted that fans of the long-running quiz show and Shah’s former students have been sharing tributes online. Some remembered her as a notable champion during a transitional period for the program, while students described her as a memorable and influential teacher. One former student said her lessons continued to resonate, and another recalled watching Shah on “Jeopardy!” while taking history classes with her at LCC.

According to a Lower Columbia College biography cited by TVInsider, Shah held a Ph.D. from the University of Houston and focused her scholarship on gender, sexuality, medicine and race. She authored “Sex Ed, Segregated: The Quest for Sexual Knowledge in Progressive-Era America” and contributed to academic publications. The report also said she enjoyed hiking, kayaking and reading.
