Court of Appeal begins three-day session to hear 32 civil cases

Nile Post reported that Uganda’s Court of Appeal in Kampala opened a three-day civil appeals session to handle 32 matters, including disputes over land, contracts, damages, defamation, retirement benefits and alleged human rights violations. The session began on Tuesday, July 21, 2026, and is scheduled to continue through Thursday, July 23, 2026.

The cases are being heard by a three-judge panel made up of Justice Christopher Gashirabake, Lady Justice Florence Nakachwa and Justice Musa Ssekaana. Nile Post cited a cause list signed by Janeva Natukunda, the Deputy Registrar of the Court of Appeal, as the basis for the list of matters scheduled before the court.

According to the report, Natukunda said appellants and their lawyers were in attendance. She also linked the session to the Judiciary’s wider effort to speed up the resolution of pending cases, ease the backlog in the courts and improve access to justice for litigants.

The development matters because appellate sessions can determine whether lower court decisions in civil cases are upheld, varied or overturned, affecting property rights, compensation claims and other legal interests.
