What the report says

Jubilee Insurance Uganda has urged corporate companies to back Uganda’s National Cleaning Day by supplying sanitation tools and encouraging employees to join community clean-up exercises. The appeal came during a joint cleaning activity with Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) officials in central Kampala on Saturday, October 31, according to Nile Post.

The exercise began at Jubilee Insurance’s head offices on Kimathi Avenue and covered several nearby streets, including Parliament Avenue, Kampala Road, Nasser Road, Rosebury Street and Dastur Street. Company executives said the private sector could help turn the monthly initiative into a broader public habit while supporting environmental protection and public health. They also said many residents are willing to take part in sanitation work but lack basic equipment such as brushes, spades and gloves.

Jubilee Insurance chief executive Eugine Mutekhele said regular cleaning can help reduce waste-related flooding and limit the spread of preventable diseases. Shaherose Jamal, director of Jubilee Life and Health Insurance, said businesses should help popularise the government-backed programme and treat it as part of responsible citizenship. KCCA officials welcomed the support, saying the initiative still needs more partners and equipment to attract wider participation.

The company said it would continue working with KCCA and hoped its involvement would encourage other firms to contribute resources. At the end of the activity, Jubilee Insurance donated equipment used during the clean-up to support future sanitation efforts.
