Como agree £31m deal to sign Chalobah from Chelsea

Como have agreed a deal worth more than £30m to sign Chelsea defender Trevoh Chalobah, according to BBC Sport Football. The move would take the 27-year-old to the Serie A club on a long-term contract, with manager Cesc Fabregas expected to give him a leadership role as Como prepare for Champions League football after finishing fourth in Italy last season.

BBC Sport reports that Chelsea will receive an initial £25.7m, with a further £5.1m linked to add-ons, after lengthy talks and several offers dating back to early June. Inter Milan were also interested, but Como’s package has come close to Chelsea’s valuation. Chalobah, an England international, is set to leave the club he joined as a child after almost two decades in the Chelsea system.

The transfer also fits into Chelsea’s wider squad reshaping under new manager Xabi Alonso. The club have already added Maxence Lacroix from Crystal Palace and still have a crowded group of senior central defenders. BBC Sport says Chelsea are trying to reduce numbers, with possible exits still being considered for other centre-backs. The Chalobah deal is significant because it combines a major outgoing fee for Chelsea with a notable signing for Como as they strengthen for top-level European competition.
