KRDO reported that the Front Range Passenger Rail District has released a new draft plan for the Colorado Connector, or CoCo, a proposed intercity passenger train along Colorado’s Front Range. The plan includes several recommendations affecting southern Colorado, including the possibility of adding a second station in north Colorado Springs.

According to KRDO, district officials said the draft plan would nearly double Colorado Springs’ annual local return for connectivity and operations, increasing it from $3.5 million to $6.6 million. The plan also proposes moving the downtown Colorado Springs platform to the east side of the tracks, which officials say would improve access to the city’s downtown area.

The Colorado Connector name was selected after a public vote involving more than 25,000 Colorado residents, KRDO reported. The rail district describes CoCo as a planned passenger route connecting 12 cities between Fort Collins and Pueblo. Under the plan cited by KRDO, the first phase would begin in 2029 on the northern part of the corridor, with service reaching Colorado Springs and Pueblo in 2032.

The draft also outlines a formal commitment to bring service to Colorado Springs and Pueblo within five years of funding, while emphasizing downtown access in both cities. The proposal matters because it would shape how future passenger rail service is phased into southern Colorado and how stations connect with local transportation and business districts.
