Col. Night Ikiriza Urges Kitende S.S Students to Embrace Patriotism and Positive Mindset

What the report says
Hon. Col. Night Ikiriza, the MP representing the Uganda People’s Defence Forces and director of human resource management at the Special Forces Command, addressed students at Kitende Secondary School in a lecture focused on patriotism and mindset change, according to Watchdog Uganda. She spoke on behalf of SFC Commander Maj. Gen. Asaph Mweteise Nyakikuru and encouraged learners to build discipline, integrity, responsibility and a positive outlook as foundations for both personal success and national development.
In her remarks, Col. Ikiriza said patriotism should be reflected in everyday conduct rather than only in national symbols. She urged students to respect themselves, take ownership of their actions, and avoid harmful influences such as corruption, theft, tribalism, religious discrimination, bad peer pressure, pornography and misuse of social media. She also called on them to value education, remain resilient in the face of setbacks, and appreciate the support their families can provide.
The officer further linked the message to broader national themes, including peace, government development initiatives, East African integration and Pan-Africanism. She said Uganda needs citizens who act with integrity and service, not just those with strong communication skills. The visit highlighted the role of civic education in schools and the military’s continuing emphasis on patriotism and character development among young people.
