Claimed Israeli capture of Lebanese ridge reshapes negotiation dynamics

Israel said on Friday that it had established operational control over the Ali al-Taher ridge in southern Lebanon, an area described by analysts as strategically important because it overlooks parts of Nabatieh, Marjayoun and nearby border regions. According to Al Jazeera, the Israeli operation has involved weeks of drone and air strikes and has centered on claims that Hezbollah used tunnels and underground facilities there. Fighting was reported to be continuing despite Israel’s assertion of control.

The development comes against the backdrop of months of fragile diplomacy between Israel and Lebanon, including US-mediated direct talks that began in April and a framework agreement announced in late June aimed at reducing hostilities.
