China’s NEVs deliver global gains through ‘full-chain’expansion

The Independent Uganda, carrying a Xinhua report from Guangzhou dated July 27, 2026, says China’s new energy vehicle industry is moving beyond simply shipping electric cars overseas toward a broader global model that includes local production, technology licensing, brand building and after-sales networks. The report frames the shift as a “full-chain” expansion by the world’s largest NEV exporter, with vehicles leaving ports on China’s southeast coast for global markets.

Citing the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers, the report says China exported 2.615 million NEVs in 2025, up 103.7% from 2024, and 2.355 million units in the first half of 2026, a 120% year-on-year rise. It highlights XPENG, which delivered more than 45,000 vehicles overseas in 2025, and GAC Group, which exported 121,500 own-brand vehicles in the first half of 2026. GAC said it aims for 250,000 exports in 2026 and 1 million by 2030, across 120 countries and regions.

The report also points to deeper overseas integration. BYD is described as licensing its e-platform 3.0 to Toyota and battery technology to Hyundai, while seven ASEAN countries have adopted its EV charging standard. XPENG is said to be supplying autonomous-driving and AI chip technologies to Volkswagen for wider deployment.

Xinhua reports that Chinese automakers are expanding showrooms, service centres, parts warehouses and local plants in markets including Europe, Southeast Asia, the Middle East and Latin America. The article says this could support host-country jobs, faster repairs and lower maintenance costs, while helping accelerate electric-vehicle adoption.
