Child among seven killed by Israel in Gaza on ‘ceasefire’ anniversary

What the report says
At least seven Palestinians, including an eight-year-old girl, were killed in Israeli attacks across Gaza on Saturday, according to Al Jazeera’s report citing medical sources. The killings came on the one-year anniversary of the US-backed ceasefire that the article says has continued “in name only,” with violence persisting in parts of the enclave.
The child, identified as Shahd Abdul-Razzaq al-Najjar, was killed by an Israeli quadcopter drone in western Gaza City, while four others died in a separate strike near the Haider Abdel Shafi roundabout, according to Al-Shifa Hospital. Another person was killed in a drone attack in Gaza City’s Tuffah neighbourhood, and a woman later died from wounds sustained in an earlier attack in Khan Younis.
Gaza’s Health Ministry said 1,481 Palestinians have been killed and 5,254 injured since the ceasefire began on October 10 last year. It also said Israeli attacks over the previous 24 hours killed at least nine people and injured 65. Al Jazeera reported that aid restrictions and limits on reconstruction materials have worsened conditions for civilians, and that humanitarian groups say the ceasefire has not ended the daily toll.
The report also said violence continued in the occupied West Bank, where Palestinian farmers and homes were targeted by Israeli settlers, sometimes with army support. The broader context, based on long-running conflict reporting, is that Gaza’s health system and basic infrastructure remain under severe strain after more than two years of war.
