Chiesa, 28, joined Liverpool from Juventus in 2024 in a deal reported by the BBC as worth £12.5m and is under contract until 2028. His playing time has been limited across two seasons at Anfield: the BBC says he has started one Premier League match and scored five goals in 50 appearances in all competitions. In June, he told La Gazzetta dello Sport that he would need to consider other options if he could not find regularity in the Premier League.

The latest comments came after Chiesa scored in Liverpool’s first friendly of the Iraola era. Iraola was appointed in June following Arne Slot’s dismissal. Chiesa described the start of the season as another new beginning, while acknowledging that he wanted a larger role last season and that team selection ultimately rested with the coach.

The situation matters because Chiesa remains a high-profile attacking option at Liverpool but has yet to establish himself as a regular starter. His remarks suggest he is not pushing publicly for an exit at this stage, while also leaving open how his role may develop under the new manager.
