Chief Muzzukulu Urges Ugandans to Turn Up, Vote Peacefully in LC1 Elections

Nile Post reported that Hajjat Hadijah Namyalo Uzeiye, the manager of the Office of the National Chairman, has urged Ugandans to take part in the Local Council I elections scheduled for Tuesday, July 28, 2026. Speaking to journalists at the ONC headquarters in Kyambogo, Namyalo, also referred to as Chief Muzzukulu, appealed especially to young voters to turn up early, vote peacefully and choose village leaders focused on accountability, unity, development and service delivery.

According to the report, Namyalo described the LC1 chairperson as a key grassroots leader who helps link villages to government programmes and raises local concerns with relevant authorities. She encouraged voters to avoid candidates associated with corruption, land grabbing or criminality, and instead back people able to advocate for community needs, including access to services and programmes such as the Parish Development Model.

Namyalo also raised concern about the conduct of recent Women Council elections, saying some village voting ended very early and left some eligible voters unable to participate. She advised residents to report to polling stations from around 7:00 a.m. and remain orderly throughout the process so they do not miss the chance to vote.

The Nile Post report said Namyalo cautioned senior National Resistance Movement leaders against imposing candidates on communities, stressing that voters should make free choices without intimidation. She said ONC district and regional coordinators had been deployed to mobilise participation and monitor NRM candidates, while not taking over the Electoral Commission’s role. The appeal highlights the importance attached to LC1 elections in village-level governance and service delivery.
