Chevy and Cadillac essentially have no new EVs planned as GM shifts back to gas - Electrek

What the report says

Electrek reported that General Motors is scaling back near-term electric vehicle expansion for Chevrolet and Cadillac while preparing a renewed push into gasoline-powered models. The report, published July 21, 2026, followed GM’s second-quarter earnings call, where CEO Mary Barra said the next generation of Cadillac internal-combustion vehicles is expected to start arriving next spring.

According to Electrek, Barra identified updated versions of the Cadillac CT5 sedan, XT5 SUV and three-row XT6 SUV as part of that plan. The move marks a shift for Cadillac, which had previously been positioned to move toward an all-electric lineup by 2030. Its current electric SUVs will remain available, but new gasoline models are now set to be sold alongside them.

For Chevrolet, Electrek said the limited-run new Bolt EV is scheduled to end production at the close of the year, with GM replacing it at a Kansas plant with a gasoline-powered crossover. The Equinox EV, Blazer EV and Silverado EV are expected to remain on sale, and a GM spokesperson told Electrek the company still has future EVs in development globally while being cautious about the U.S. market. The report also noted 2027 Chevy EVs are being updated with NACS charging ports.

The shift matters because Chevrolet remains one of the top-selling EV brands in the U.S., behind Tesla, even as rivals such as Hyundai are gaining ground. Electrek reported GM has recorded $10.9 billion in EV-related charges since the second half of 2025, while also raising its full-year adjusted profit outlook to $14 billion to $16 billion.
