Charlton Athletic sign Leicester's Neville

BBC Sport reports that Charlton Athletic have brought in full-back Ashleigh Neville from Leicester City, agreeing a two-year contract with the 33-year-old. Neville arrives at the newly promoted club with substantial Women’s Super League experience, having made more than 100 appearances in the division.

The move also reunites Neville with Charlton manager Karen Hills. According to the BBC, the pair worked together for three years at Tottenham, a spell that included the club’s rise into the top flight. Neville said she was pleased to join Charlton and highlighted her familiarity with Hills, as well as her hope of contributing experience both in matches and around the squad.

BBC Sport adds that Neville had only joined Leicester in January on an 18-month agreement. Leicester were later relegated after losing to Charlton in a May play-off. The report says it is understood her Leicester deal did not include a relegation release clause and that a mutual termination was not reached, making it likely Charlton paid a fee.

In a separate Leicester move, the BBC says the Foxes have signed Republic of Ireland international Jessie Stapleton from West Ham for an undisclosed fee on a three-year contract. The 21-year-old spent three years with West Ham but had limited first-team opportunities, while also gaining experience on loan at Reading, Sunderland and Nottingham Forest.
