Tour de France organizer Letour.fr reported that the route for the race’s final stage on Sunday, July 26, 2026, has been changed because of wildfires affecting France, especially in the Gironde region. The stage was scheduled to run from Thoiry to Paris, but officials said the situation required a security adjustment as emergency services and internal security forces respond to the fires and protect affected communities.

According to the Tour de France notice, France’s Ministry of the Interior decided to redirect some internal security personnel who had been assigned to the race’s final stage so they can support wildfire response operations. Organizers described the change as a measure taken in national solidarity with the regions and residents affected by the blazes.

Stage 21 will now cover 89 kilometers instead of the originally planned 133 kilometers. The publicity caravan is due to leave Thoiry at 1:20 p.m. after the parade and travel directly toward the final circuit in Paris. The team presentation remains set for Thoiry at 2:40 p.m., after which riders will be transported by bus to the Paris circuit.

The official start is scheduled for 5:50 p.m. from the finish line. Riders will complete two extra laps of the Champs-Élysées before moving on to the Montmartre circuit, with the finish planned for 7:45 p.m. Letour.fr said the Prefect of Police and the Tour de France director thanked riders, teams, authorities, partners and spectators for their understanding, while also recognizing those fighting the wildfires.
