What the report says

Liverpool’s perfect start in the Champions League ended with a 3-2 defeat at Fenerbahce in Istanbul, where the Turkish side came from behind twice to earn their first win of the campaign. Al Jazeera, citing Reuters, reported that interim coach Dirk Kuyt praised his team’s intensity after Vedat Muriqi headed in the 79th-minute winner against his former club. Liverpool had led through Trey Nyoni and later regained the advantage with a Cody Gakpo assist for Alexander Isak, but Fenerbahce responded through a deflected Mason Greenwood free kick and then the decisive late goal.

The same round produced a record-setting result in France, where Como beat Lens 9-1 away to equal the Champions League’s biggest winning margin. The Italian club also became the first team since 1971 to score nine goals in an away European Cup match, and only the second side ever to score nine in a Champions League game. The result continued Como’s strong debut campaign and lifted them into the upper end of the standings.

Elsewhere, Real Madrid needed a stoppage-time Federico Valverde goal to defeat AEK Athens 3-2 and stay near the top of the table, while Manchester City edged Leipzig 3-2 thanks to Erling Haaland’s late winner after a lively second-half exchange. Arsenal also stayed on course with a comfortable lead in Prague before conceding late. The results underline how tightly contested the league phase has become, even as some clubs are producing unusually one-sided scorelines.
