Chagga dismisses deportation claims, says he will return to UK

What the report says
Veteran Ugandan musician and music manager Geoffrey Chagga has pushed back against online claims that he was deported from the United Kingdom. In an interview cited by Sqoop Uganda, he said his return to Uganda was voluntary and that he still expects to travel back to London, rejecting speculation that immigration problems forced him out of Britain.
The article says the rumours were linked to questions about his work-permit status, but Chagga insisted that critics did not know the circumstances of his travel. He said he has been doing casual work in London and declined to discuss his private affairs in detail. He also suggested that he had not broken British law and therefore had no reason to be deported.
Chagga additionally described early difficulties when he first arrived in the UK, saying the people expected to meet him at the airport did not show up and had wanted him to seek asylum, which he refused to do. He said he eventually found his way into life in Britain and later settled into work there. Sqoop Uganda did not provide a date for his planned return to London, but reported that he maintained his latest visit to Uganda should not be read as a permanent move.
