Celtic ultras plan boycott amid quarrel with board

What the report says
Celtic fan group the Green Brigade says it will boycott the club’s non-Premiership matches, sharpening an already tense dispute with the club’s hierarchy. BBC Sport Football reported that the ultras group linked the move to a growing rift between supporters and the board, accusing those in charge of showing deep disconnect from the fan base.
The statement singled out majority shareholder Dermot Desmond, saying his influence has helped create an atmosphere the group views as increasingly difficult. The dispute follows a recent protest targeting Desmond during the Alfred Dunhill Links golf tournament in St Andrews, after which Celtic warned that anyone found to have planned, helped with, or taken part in the incident could face an indefinite ban.
Celtic has also stopped recognising the Celtic Fans Collective as a representative supporters’ body. That umbrella group includes the Green Brigade, meaning the relationship between the club and organised fan groups has become more strained. The Green Brigade said the club’s latest response showed hostility toward supporters and denied involvement in the St Andrews protest, while saying it welcomed those responsible. The developments matter because they highlight a broader breakdown in communication between Celtic and parts of its support, with potential consequences for matchday atmosphere and fan engagement.
