What the report says

BBC Sport Football reported that Celtic are in talks over a move for PSV Eindhoven midfielder Joel van den Berg and that the club have sent representatives to the Netherlands to discuss a transfer. The 19-year-old has not yet established himself in PSV’s first team, and the report says he is open to leaving. Dutch reporting cited by BBC Sport also suggested PSV may be ready to sell, after Van den Berg was left out of Jong PSV’s match squad on Friday.

The item placed the Celtic interest alongside several other transfer updates. It said Celtic target Niko Sigur has now played his last game for Hajduk Split, but that the Scottish champions face competition from Genk and Toulouse for the 22-year-old. It also said Partizan Belgrade rejected a Celtic offer for Ognjen Ugresic after agreeing terms with PAOK, while Celtic are expected to miss out on Slovan Liberec midfielder Ermin Mahmic, who is reportedly heading to Corum in Turkey.

BBC Sport also noted other Scottish transfer rumours involving Rangers and Dundee United. Rangers are said to be in danger of missing out on Lens striker Rayan Fofana, while Dundee United are considering another bid for Falkirk midfielder Brad Spencer after an earlier approach drew a strong response from Falkirk manager John McGlynn. The wider context is the summer transfer window, where clubs are working through multiple bids and competing interest.
