CAS promises Senegal-Morocco AFCON title decision within days

What the report says
The Court of Arbitration for Sport said it will issue a decision within days on Senegal’s appeal over the 2026 Africa Cup of Nations title, according to Al Jazeera’s report based on Reuters. The hearing was held on Thursday, and CAS said it aims to deliver a reasoned ruling as soon as possible after arguments concluded.
The case stems from a disputed final in Rabat, where Senegal beat host nation Morocco 1-0 after extra time. According to the report, Senegal walked off the field for about 14 minutes late in regulation after a penalty was awarded against them, then returned to finish the match. Morocco missed the spot kick, Senegal won in extra time, but the Confederation of African Football later overturned the result.
CAF’s Appeal Board ruled that Senegal had forfeited the match and awarded Morocco a 3-0 victory, effectively stripping Senegal of the title two months after the final. Senegal then took the case to CAS, the sport’s highest arbitration body, which heard the appeal behind closed doors.
The report says the hearing focused on procedural and legal questions, while Senegal’s representatives said they were confident and stressed the importance of upholding sports law. The outcome matters because it will settle one of African football’s most unusual title disputes and determine the official champion of the tournament.
