Carrefour Renovates In Need Home Facility Through Customer Donations

What the report says
Carrefour Uganda has completed renovations at a facility run by In Need Home in Namuwongo, Kampala, according to Nile Post. The work was funded through the supermarket chain’s “Round Up Your Bill” customer donation programme, which lets shoppers round up payments at checkout and direct the extra funds to community projects.
The improvements were handed over on October 16, 2026, and covered classrooms, offices, sanitation facilities and other shared spaces. The facility also received repairs to roofs, windows, ceilings, doors and water gutters, along with replastering and repainting. A key part of the upgrade was the replacement of bamboo staircases with terrazzo-finished stairs and the installation of modern flushing toilets.
In Need Home supports vulnerable children and families, including orphans from disadvantaged communities and some children living with HIV. Executive Director Michael Tumwesigye said the renovation had improved safety, hygiene and the overall quality of life at the home, which currently houses 45 children and supports 165 in total, including those studying in different schools.
Nile Post reported that Carrefour Uganda said the initiative had raised more than Shs630 million and supported six projects across Uganda so far. The company said the programme fits within Majid Al Futtaim’s wider sustainability strategy, which focuses on education, health, community development and economic empowerment.
