Carly Simon reveals Parkinson's diagnosis - BBC

What the report says
BBC News reported that singer-songwriter Carly Simon, 83, has disclosed she has been diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease and is adapting to the effects of the progressive condition. In a statement given to the BBC, Simon described the illness as unpredictable, with some days marked by severe fatigue and others allowing more movement, thought and work. She said she has not stopped living or creating.
Simon said her health problems first appeared to be linked to arthritis in both knees and one hip, but her mobility did not improve after three replacement operations. She described needing help to stand or walk at times, prompting further medical evaluation. According to the BBC, she was diagnosed after an extensive assessment at the Mayo Clinic and has been receiving medication and treatment. She also said the condition has brought anxiety, depression and apathy.
The BBC also reported that Simon recently had surgery to remove a cancerous growth on her face, which she said affected her appearance and made her more reluctant to be seen publicly. She explained that she chose to speak out after receiving letters from people asking about her relative silence and how she was doing.
Simon, one of the best-known singer-songwriters of the 1970s and 1980s, is associated with songs including “You’re So Vain,” “Nobody Does It Better,” “Why” and “Coming Around Again.” Despite her diagnosis, she has announced a new album, “Comes In Waves,” due in August 2026, with the first single, “Howl,” already released. Parkinson’s affects the brain, nervous system and muscle control; the BBC cited it as the world’s fastest-growing neurological condition.
