What the report says

Cardiff City defender Krystian Bielik says his family received death threats after his recent altercation with a Portsmouth supporter, according to BBC Sport Football. The claims emerged in the written reasons from an independent regulatory commission that dealt with the case, which stemmed from Cardiff’s Championship match at Fratton Park last month.

Bielik, 28, was banned for two games and fined £10,000 after admitting misconduct over an incident in which he was judged to have grabbed the young fan by the shoulder while retrieving the ball for a throw-in during Cardiff’s 2-1 defeat. BBC Sport said Hampshire Police later decided no further action was needed and issued a Community Resolution Order, and Bielik also sent a written apology before the Football Association charge was heard.

The commission said the death-threat claim was regrettable but did not affect the punishment because no supporting evidence was provided. It also accepted some mitigation, including that Bielik did not retaliate after being struck in the face, but said his initial contact still carried the risk of escalating tensions and creating a dangerous flashpoint.

Cardiff manager Brian Barry-Murphy backed the Poland international, describing him as a consummate professional. The case adds to scrutiny around player-fan flashpoints and how disciplinary panels weigh intent, crowd safety and mitigation in such incidents.
