What the report says

Next Media has outlined a new phase for its radio business, grouping Capital 91.3 FM, Beat FM and KIIS 100.9 FM more closely with its television, digital and entertainment platforms. The company is presenting the move under the #CapitalisNext banner and says the aim is to keep each station’s identity intact while giving audiences more ways to access content across radio, video, streaming and live events.

The direction was introduced on Friday, October 2, during Next Media’s Triannual Next Media Talks at Next Media Park, where the Capital Radio team was welcomed into the broader portfolio. Group CEO Kin Kariisa said the stations would retain their brands and listener relationships as the company builds a connected media ecosystem. He framed the strategy as one that links familiar radio voices with wider distribution through platforms such as NBS Television, Sanyuka TV, Nile Post and AfroMobile.

Next Media also announced a leadership change for its radio division. Peter Jackson Mungoma, formerly chief executive of Capital Radio Group, has been appointed Deputy Group CEO and Chief of Radio at Next Media Group. Kariisa said Mungoma brings commercial discipline and leadership experience. According to the report, the appointment supports Next Media’s plans for growth, digital development and stronger commercial performance.

Nile Post said the transition is still subject to Uganda Communications Commission processes. The company’s announcement comes as Uganda Month begins ahead of the country’s 64th Independence anniversary on October 9, and Next Media linked the move to its wider ambition of becoming a major African-owned media group.
