Paris St-Germain begin a new campaign with a chance to extend their recent dominance in European football, according to BBC Sport. The French club, who won the Champions League in 2025 and again this year, open their season with the Uefa Super Cup against Europa League winners Aston Villa in Salzburg on Wednesday. A victory would add another European prize to a trophy haul that has become central to their ambitions under Luis Enrique.

BBC Sport notes that PSG could become only the second team to win three straight Champions Leagues, a feat previously achieved only by Real Madrid, and they would be aiming for a historic sweep across six competitions this season. Those competitions include the Super Cup, the French season-opening Trophee des Champions, the Champions League, Ligue 1, the French Cup and the Fifa Intercontinental Cup. No major club has won six trophies in a single season before, and PSG came close last term with five.

The report also highlights potential complications. Several PSG players had long World Cup runs during the summer, leaving limited recovery time before the Super Cup. Even so, the club have kept much of the squad that won both European finals, while adding new signings such as Maghnes Akliouche, Lucas Digne and Alessandro Longoni.
