Busujju LC I Hopefuls Begin Campaigns, Residents Demand Accountable Leadership

Nile Post reports that campaigns for Local Council I chairperson seats have started in Busujju Constituency, Mityana District, as part of a wider national campaign period that began on Tuesday. Aspirants cleared by the Electoral Commission are now seeking voter support at village level, with many presenting themselves as candidates for improved service delivery, transparency and community-focused leadership.

In Buluma Village, Butayunja Sub-county, Vincent Zziwa is among the contenders. According to the report, he launched his campaign with pledges to mobilize residents around agriculture, local infrastructure, road maintenance, drainage clearing, health services and broader socio-economic development. Other candidates across Busujju are also said to be emphasizing roads, farming support, dispute resolution and public health as key campaign issues.

Residents quoted by Nile Post said they want LC I leaders who are fair, accountable and willing to serve all community members without bias. They particularly raised concerns about how village leaders handle sensitive matters such as domestic disputes and land-related conflicts, urging future office holders not to misuse authority or pursue personal gain.

Mityana District Electoral Commission Returning Officer Charles Rebero urged candidates to campaign peacefully, respect each other and follow the election rules. The LC I chairperson role is significant in Uganda’s local governance structure because village leaders often act as the first link between communities and government offices, including in dispute handling, local mobilization and basic service coordination.
