What the report says

The Independent Uganda reported on July 23, 2026, that Busoga High School in Kamuli has received a new 2025 Isuzu 67-seat school bus through support linked to Equity Bank Uganda’s asset financing services. The vehicle was handed over to school management at a ceremony attended by education officials, bank representatives, students, teachers and parents.

According to the report, Kamuli Municipal Education Officer Ivan Wakabi welcomed the acquisition and encouraged school leaders to consider financing options that can help them obtain safer, roadworthy transport. The bus is equipped with onboard surveillance cameras, which the school and officials said should improve monitoring, accountability and learner protection during travel.

Equity Bank’s Jinja branch manager, Tom Mwanje, said the bank provides financial products for education institutions, including asset financing for vehicles and equipment, development financing for school infrastructure, and short-term support for cash flow needs. Dr. Kakuba Mpango, chairperson of the school board, was pictured receiving congratulations after the handover.

The Independent framed the development against wider concern in Uganda about the safety of learners travelling for school activities. The report noted that recent crashes involving school vehicles had led the Ministry of Education and Sports to suspend school tours and trips while investigations continue. As part of the handover, the school also invited a priest to bless the bus and its driver before use.
