What the report says

Bunyoro Affairs Minister Grace Mary Mugasa has urged leaders and stakeholders in the Bunyoro sub-region to revive the Bunyoro Integrated Affirmative Development Plan, saying it should again serve as a guide for regional development. According to Nile Post, she made the appeal on Thursday during consultations with Hoima District and Hoima City leaders on the monitoring and implementation of government programmes at Hoima Youth Centre in Kasingo.

Mugasa said the region has seen government investment in areas such as roads, schools and health facilities, but argued that more attention is needed to improve household incomes and support long-term economic growth. She pointed to agro-industrialisation, value addition, tourism, and the oil and gas sector as important drivers, while also encouraging people to pursue commercial agriculture and other income-generating activities.

Local leaders used the meeting to highlight service delivery gaps. Hoima’s chief administrative officer called for more staffing, especially in health services, while district and city leaders raised concerns about roads, water, healthcare and support for communities around the Lake Albert shoreline. The resident city commissioner also pressed for upgrades at Hoima Regional Referral Hospital, including orthopaedics and intensive care.

Mugasa said she would compile the issues raised and follow them up with the relevant government agencies. The discussion reflects broader efforts in Bunyoro to align local priorities with government programmes and to ensure that development benefits reach households more directly.
