What the report says

Wakiso District Local Government reported on July 21, 2026, that construction of the 12.17-kilometre Bukasa–Sentema–Kakiri Road has reached 61% physical completion, ahead of the planned 51.4% target. The district said the project remains on course for its scheduled completion in November 2026.

The update followed a site review meeting attended by Assistant Resident District Commissioner Angel Namulimbe, District Internal Security Officer Denis Oje Anguzu, the resident engineer and representatives of the contractor, Chongqing International Construction Corporation (CICO). District officials praised the pace of work while urging the contractor to maintain quality and keep to the delivery timetable.

According to the district’s progress report, clearing and grubbing is 92.3% complete, roadbed processing is at 71.15%, the G15 capping layer is at 47.36%, the G45 sub-base is at 37.18%, and the CRR base course is at 14.23%. Priming has reached 14.155%, while asphalt surfacing has started, with 0.5% completed. The district also said all seven planned box culverts have been built, supporting drainage works along the route. Other activities continuing on site include excavation, swamp works, fill placement, base construction and bituminous surfacing.

CICO reported that it had received UGX 33.6 billion of the UGX 56 billion contract value. The district said the completed road is expected to improve movement, trade, travel times and access to services for communities in Wakiso District and nearby areas. Officials also called on residents to continue cooperating with the project team and protecting construction materials.
