What the report says

Nile Post reports that Buganda Kingdom is urging contestants in the Miss Tourism Buganda pageant to use Artificial Intelligence to help promote the kingdom’s culture and tourism. The appeal was made at the Buganda Heritage and Tourism Board headquarters in Mengo, where the board’s chief executive officer, Najib Nsubuga, said digital tools could help present Buganda’s heritage and Uganda’s tourism attractions to audiences beyond the country.

According to the report, Nsubuga argued that AI can strengthen tourism marketing by helping distinguish Buganda from other destinations and drawing interest from visitors seeking to learn about its traditions. He also linked the use of AI in tourism promotion to possible youth employment and new digital-economy opportunities, particularly for young people involved in culture, media, marketing and related fields.

The Nile Post article says this year’s Miss Tourism Buganda contest has 25 contestants from 14 Buganda counties, while four counties have not fielded representatives. Nsubuga called on county chiefs from the non-participating areas to encourage more young women to join future editions, saying broader participation would better reflect the kingdom’s cultural diversity and tourism sites.

The pageant is presented as part of Buganda Kingdom’s wider cultural tourism efforts, with contestants expected to act as ambassadors for heritage, traditions and tourism promotion. Nile Post reports that the grand finale is scheduled for Friday, July 24, at Bulange, Mengo, where the winner will be crowned.
