Bleacher Report reported that Bryson DeChambeau addressed the aftermath of his Open Championship penalty while speaking to reporters at the LIV Golf UK event, one week after his run at Royal Birkdale ended short of a first career victory in the tournament. DeChambeau said he believed he could have been “right there for the Claret Jug” without the penalty and costly play on two holes.

According to the report, DeChambeau was seven under after the second round and had been in the clubhouse in second place, one shot behind Lucas Herbert. Before he signed his scorecard, officials reviewed an incident on the fifth hole and determined that he had improved his lie by stepping on long grass and flattening it after his drive.
