Brughmans joins Liverpool in deal worth up to £30m

Liverpool have completed the signing of Belgian teenage goalkeeper Lucca Brughmans from Genk in a deal BBC Sport says could rise to about £30m with add-ons. The 18-year-old has agreed a six-year contract but will stay at Genk on loan for this season, with a move to Anfield planned for the start of the 2027-28 campaign.

BBC Sport reported that Brughmans is 6ft 7in and has already started Genk’s four matches this season, while also representing Belgium at youth level. The broadcaster said the transfer includes an initial fee and later payments, with the total reaching the upper end of the possible package if conditions are met.

The move adds another long-term goalkeeping option to Liverpool’s squad planning. The club currently has Alisson, Giorgi Mamardashvili, Freddie Woodman and Vitezslav Jaros listed among its senior options, although BBC Sport noted that Alisson’s contract expires next summer and Mamardashvili’s future is uncertain. Brughmans is therefore seen as a player for the later phase of Liverpool’s planning rather than an immediate addition.

BBC Sport also linked the deal to Liverpool’s wider recruitment strategy through its global talent department, which has recently targeted young prospects from outside the club’s usual markets. That background suggests Liverpool continue to invest in emerging players for the long term, even if they will not arrive at the club straight away.
