What the report says

British rapper and YouTuber Yung Filly, whose real name is Andres Felipe Valencia Barrientos, will face a retrial in Australia on three rape charges after a jury was unable to reach a verdict on those counts. The BBC reports that the case stems from allegations that he raped and assaulted a fan after a nightclub performance in Perth in 2024. Barrientos has denied all 10 charges brought against him.

Last month, the jury cleared him of several allegations, including three counts of sexual penetration without consent, and also acquitted him of one assault charge and one charge of strangulation. However, it found him guilty of two counts of assault occasioning bodily harm. According to the BBC, sentencing on those convictions will take place after the retrial.

The hearing took place in the West Australian court system, where the alleged victim said the pair had consensual sex in his hotel room before the encounter turned violent. The broadcaster says no retrial date has been set, but Barrientos is due back in court on 27 August for an application to vary his bail. More broadly, the case has drawn attention because Barrientos is a high-profile online personality with a large audience beyond music, and the proceedings are continuing under the Australian justice system.
