Brig. Gen. John Mango Baraza Takes Over as SFC Chief of Staff

Brigadier General John Mango Baraza has taken over as Chief of Staff of Uganda’s Special Forces Command, succeeding Brigadier General Paul Wanyera Namawa. Watchdog Uganda reported that the handover took place at SFC Headquarters in Entebbe on Thursday, July 30, 2026, and was presided over by Deputy Commander Brigadier General Asaph Mweteise Nyakikuru.

According to the report, Namawa was the pioneer holder of the office, which was created under the UPDF Establishment 2021 and is tasked with overseeing the command’s administration and control. In his handover brief, he outlined the office structure, key achievements, ongoing projects and recommendations for his successor. He said his tenure saw progress on infrastructure such as accommodation units, office blocks, health centres, dormitories, cookhouses, stores and renovations to existing facilities.

Baraza, who previously served as Director of Human Resource Management in the SFC, said he was ready to work with the command’s leadership and personnel to strengthen the unit. Nyakikuru praised Namawa for helping establish the office and urged Baraza to build on the progress already made. The ceremony also covered several other leadership changes across SFC formations, part of what Watchdog Uganda described as an ongoing transition aimed at improving administration and operational effectiveness.
