BREAKING: Court Dismisses Mufumbiro’s Petition, Upholds Ruhindi’s Nakawa East Victory

What the report says
The High Court has dismissed an election petition by National Unity Platform deputy spokesperson Alex Waiswa Mufumbiro, leaving National Resistance Movement candidate Fredrick Ruhindi’s win in Nakawa Division East Constituency intact. Justice Allan Nshimye found that the evidence presented did not justify overturning Ruhindi’s election as Member of Parliament.
According to Nile Post, Mufumbiro had alleged several irregularities, including the exclusion of results from 22 polling stations, discrepancies in voter records, inflated tallies and possible tampering with declaration forms. The court said the missing results did not materially change the final outcome and raised concerns about the reliability of some of the petitioner’s evidence, including uncertified photocopies of official documents.
The judge also said Mufumbiro did not prove that he had polled more votes than Ruhindi. In reviewing witness testimony and results forms, the court questioned some claims about turnout and found no evidence of vote alterations at the polling stations examined. The ruling dismissed Election Petition No. 12 of 2026 and ordered each side to meet its own costs.
The decision is significant because it closes a post-election legal challenge in one of Kampala’s constituencies and reinforces the court’s view that alleged errors must be shown to have affected the final result before an election is set aside.
