The New York Post reports that Hannah Rapp, a 26-year-old featherweight boxer, died after being struck while riding a bicycle on FM 159 in Brazos County, Texas, on Saturday. Citing an affidavit reported by KBTX, the Post said driver Charles Medina, 31, had passed Rapp and her boyfriend, Will Pollalis, at close range before Pollalis shouted and raised his hands in protest.

Investigators allege Medina then stopped, reversed and hit Rapp. The Post reported that Rapp’s head broke the rear window of the vehicle and she was taken to a hospital, where she died. Medina reportedly told authorities he believed Pollalis was trying to get his attention and that he backed up slowly to speak with him. Authorities said physical evidence, including vehicle damage and skid marks, did not align with that account.

Medina was arrested on a manslaughter charge and was being held on a $250,000 bond as of Monday, according to the Post. The article, citing KBTX and online jail records, said Medina had multiple prior arrests in Brazos County dating back to 2012, including cases involving assault, hit-and-run, theft, escape from custody, controlled substances and driving offenses.

Rapp had run track at Purdue University before moving into boxing, relocating to Texas in 2024 and working as a fire and life safety inspector at Texas A&M while training out of Bryan. The Post said she challenged for the WBC women’s featherweight championship last month. Her coach, Carl Perry, told local media he believed she had world-champion potential. A fundraiser and memorial efforts have been started in her memory.
