What the report says

Baganda residents in Boston, Massachusetts, marked Buganda Day 2026 with cultural performances, a Luganda language quiz and messages focused on unity and support for Kingdom-linked development efforts, according to Nile Post. The event was organised by the Boston chapter of Ggwanga Mujje, a group that brings together Ugandans in the New England region.

The celebration was described as one of the association’s four major annual events and as a way to preserve Buganda traditions among diaspora communities, especially younger people born or raised abroad. A quiz on Luganda, Buganda customs and cultural heritage featured as a highlight, with Serena Nakazibwe of Nnyonyi Nakinsige winning the youth category after what the report said was a strong showing.

The Kabaka’s representative in New England, Henry Matovu Ndawula, thanked attendees for remaining active in Kingdom-related activities. In a separate message read to the gathering, Joseph Kawuki, the minister for local governments, Buganda affairs abroad and the Kabaka’s tours, praised the Boston community for keeping the tradition alive and urged Baganda to avoid divisions linked to religion or politics.

Kawuki also encouraged diaspora members to support a fundraising effort for a water-based hospital intended to serve communities on the Ssese and Buvuma islands. He pointed to wider Kingdom initiatives, including nursery schools, health facilities and clean water projects, and urged people to follow official Buganda Kingdom communication channels for updates. The report frames the Boston event as both a cultural celebration and a moment to reinforce identity and development support among Baganda abroad.
