What the report says

South African sprinter Sinesipho Dambile says he sees comparisons with Usain Bolt as a compliment as he builds on a breakthrough season and sets his sights on world and Olympic success. BBC Africa reports that the 24-year-old, speaking on the Warm Up Track podcast, said he welcomes the pressure that comes with being mentioned alongside the Jamaican sprint icon and wants to use that attention to push his career forward.

Dambile’s rise has been marked by several strong results in the 200m. The BBC says his season included a personal best in Doha, a runner-up finish behind Kenny Bednarek in Brussels, and a fourth-place finish at the inaugural Ultimate Championships. His biggest highlight was winning Commonwealth gold, which made him the first South African to claim that title in the men’s 200m. He also reached the 200m final at the World Athletics Championships in Tokyo, where he placed eighth after advancing through the semifinals with another personal best.

The report says Dambile has also become part of a stronger South African sprint group, including Akani Simbine, with team success in relay events helping to raise belief within the squad. He described the training environment at the University of Pretoria’s TuksSport program as important to his development.

Looking ahead, Dambile said he hopes to compete in both the 100m and 200m and aims for major titles at future World Championships and Olympic Games. BBC Africa notes that his progress has been shaped by injuries in recent years, but his latest form has lifted his profile at home and added momentum to his ambitions.
