NBC 5 Dallas-Fort Worth reported that newly released body-camera footage shows former Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo’s July 23 traffic stop and arrest in Milwaukee on suspicion of operating while intoxicated. According to the station, Romo, 46, was stopped by a Milwaukee County sheriff’s deputy on an elevated highway after alleged unsafe passing on the right and crossing a marked area. He told the deputy he had come from a golf course, was headed to see his grandparents and had not consumed any drinks.

The video, as described by NBC 5, shows Romo asking to call his attorney before field sobriety testing and being handcuffed while the deputy moved him from the bridge to a police station area for testing on level ground. The deputy later said she observed red, glassy eyes and an odor of alcohol, and referenced small alcohol containers found in his bag. Romo asked whether any had been consumed, and the article says the deputy did not answer.

NBC 5 reported that Romo participated in several field sobriety tasks, mentioned prior back injuries and declined a preliminary breath test, saying he had been advised not to take one. A sheriff’s report said he performed poorly on standardized field sobriety tests, though NBC 5 said it did not include further detail. Romo has a Sept. 21 court appearance; NBC 5 said a talent agency associated with him did not respond to comment requests.
