Fox News Digital reported that newly released Milwaukee County Sheriff’s Office bodycam footage shows former Dallas Cowboys quarterback and CBS broadcaster Tony Romo questioning officers during a July 23 traffic stop in Wisconsin that led to an operating-while-intoxicated arrest. In the video described by Fox, Romo told an officer he was coming from a golf course, denied drinking and asked to contact his attorney.

According to the report, an arresting officer said she noticed red, glassy eyes and smelled alcohol. Romo was taken to a nearby station for field sobriety testing. Fox reported that after the tests, he declined a breath test, saying he had been advised by lawyers not to take one. He was cited for first-offense operating while intoxicated and for refusing a chemical test, then released. Fox said he is due in court Sept. 21.

The report said Romo had been stopped on an interstate after playing in the Wisconsin Amateur Golf Championship and later withdrew from the M&P Group Texas State Open. Fox also reported that CBS did not immediately respond to its emails after initial news of the arrest, and that Romo had not commented.

Romo retired from the NFL in 2017 after a long run as Dallas’ starting quarterback and moved into broadcasting with CBS alongside Jim Nantz. Fox noted his football résumé includes four Pro Bowl selections, more than 34,000 passing yards and work as part of CBS’ lead NFL broadcast team, including multiple Super Bowls.
