‘Bobi Wine is out of your league”: Weasel warns returned singer Kid Fox over media attacks

Veteran Ugandan musician Douglas Mayanja, known as Weasel Manizo, has publicly cautioned fellow singer Kid Fox after Kid Fox returned to Uganda following years abroad. In remarks made during a TikTok live stream, Weasel said the local entertainment industry has changed and urged the artist to be careful in media interviews, especially after what the article described as dismissive comments about other figures in the scene.

According to Sqoop Uganda, Weasel framed his advice as both personal and professional, saying he still considers Kid Fox a brother but believes the returning singer should respect artists who remained in Uganda and helped build the industry. He pointed to the improved financial and social status of some musicians as evidence that the sector has evolved, and warned against confrontational publicity.

A key part of Weasel’s message focused on Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu, better known as Bobi Wine, the former musician and opposition politician who leads the National Unity Platform. Weasel said Bobi Wine should not be treated like an ordinary industry rival and suggested that his influence now places him in a separate category. He also noted that his own political alignment with the ruling National Resistance Movement does not change his view of Bobi Wine’s cultural standing.

The comments reflect the continuing overlap in Uganda between music, celebrity status and politics, where public statements by prominent entertainers often draw attention beyond the entertainment sector.
