‘Block, blunt, break’: What’s in NATO’s new Russia war plan?

What the report says
NATO’s top military commander, General Alexus Grynkewich, outlined a new approach for deterring a possible Russian attack on the alliance during remarks at the Warsaw Security Forum in Poland. He said NATO does not see war with Russia as immediate or inevitable, but wants to be ready with a response built around three steps: “block, blunt and break.” The plan is meant to stop an invasion rather than seize territory, and it draws on lessons the alliance says it has learned from the wars in Ukraine and the Middle East.
According to Al Jazeera, the concept relies on precision strikes, drones and other autonomous systems. In Grynkewich’s description, NATO would first try to halt an assault at the border, then weaken incoming forces from air, sea and land, and finally target logistics and command networks if fighting continued. He framed the message as reassurance to NATO’s member states, saying the alliance knows what it would need to do if conflict came.
The announcement comes as European officials warn more often about Russian conventional and hybrid threats, including cyberattacks, sabotage and interference with infrastructure. Germany, France, Poland, Romania and Norway have all recently voiced concerns in different forms, according to the report. Russia has denied preparing for war with Europe, while also warning Western states over their support for Ukraine.
The article also notes broader tension inside NATO, especially amid strains involving U.S. President Donald Trump and other allies. That context matters because any NATO response would depend on political unity as well as military planning.
