Bishop Kagodo’s Mother Remembered for Faith, Family Values

Religious and political leaders in Mukono have remembered Maama Ruth Kibirige Nkumye, the late mother of Mukono Diocese Bishop Rt. Rev. Enos Kitto Kagodo, as an example of faith, discipline and strong family values. The tribute came during a Thanksgiving Service at Sts. Philip and Andrew’s Cathedral in Mukono, where mourners gathered to celebrate her life after her death on Thursday at Mukono Church of Uganda Hospital. She was 98.

Speakers described her as a devoted parent whose influence was reflected in the upbringing and ministry of her children. The Archdeacon of Seeta, Ven. Canon Edward Balamaze Kironde, urged the Kagodo family to remain strong in Christ and used the occasion to encourage parents, especially mothers, to raise children with love, discipline and moral grounding. Mukono District LCV Chairperson Francis Lukooya Mukoome and Kiira Municipality MP George Musisi also praised her role as a mother, saying responsible parenting shapes families, communities and future leaders.

Minister of State for Finance, Planning and Economic Development Amos Lugolobi said the late Maama Ruth had taught her children the importance of meaningful relationships. Bishop Kagodo thanked those who supported the family and remembered his mother as loving, peaceful and fair to all her children. He also urged people to value their parents while they are still alive.

According to the report, Maama Ruth will be buried tomorrow at Mpumu Village in Kisoga Town Council, Mukono District. The broader significance of the event lies in its public emphasis on parenting, Christian values and the role of family legacy in community life.
